Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal data taxi.je collects and what we do with it. We follow the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.
Who we are
taxi.je is run from Jersey. You can reach us through the contact form.
What we collect
If you just read the site: we don't use cookies, third-party analytics, advertising trackers or social-media pixels, and we don't build profiles of visitors. Our web host, 20i, keeps standard server logs (IP address, the page asked for, browser type, time) for security and to keep the site running.
Our own visit counter: so we can see which pages and firms people use, and tell a firm how many people tapped to contact them through taxi.je, the site counts visits with a small counter of its own. For each page you open it records the page, the website you came from (if any), whether you use a phone, and what you tap or use: a phone number, WhatsApp, a website or app link, the directory search and filters, the fare calculator, a form (only that one was sent, not what you wrote), and which banner you saw or tapped. Searches you type into the directory are kept as text, without your name.
It doesn't use cookies. To count you as one visitor on a given day, it makes a one-way code from your IP address, your browser and a secret that changes every day, so it can't follow you from one day to the next. With each visit it also keeps your IP address, your country (worked out by our host) and your browser type, so we can tell our own visits, visitors from Jersey and robots apart. Those visit records are deleted after 30 days. After that only totals remain, which don't identify anyone.
If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", the counter does nothing. We use this information only to run and improve the site and to report totals to advertisers and firms. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used.
If you send a form (contact, advertising or listing update): your name, the business name, your email address and/or phone number, and your message. We use these only to reply to you and, for firms, to update a listing or arrange an advert. The message is emailed to us, and a copy is collected by our own computer within minutes; the copy on the web server is then deleted, and in any case after 7 days. We keep messages for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any advert booking, and accounting records for as long as the law requires.
Business listings show the details firms publish themselves, such as the business phone number, website and address. If you run a firm as a sole trader and want something removed, tell us.
Other services the pages use
- Weather: the weather boxes ask Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for the forecast directly from your browser, so Open-Meteo sees your IP address. No cookies are set.
- Maps: the maps on place pages come from OpenStreetMap, which sees your IP address when the map loads.
- Links to firms' websites, Google, booking apps and WhatsApp take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don't use it for marketing.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Use the contact form. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (jerseyoic.org).
